Firstly, we’re the kind of people who should have started this blog four years earlier than we did. Not out of laziness, but more because we were too busy… ‘living our best life’. I think that’s the phrase. Enough people have told us through alcohol glazed eyes that we really should get some of our bizarre life recorded, so here we have it – the Shipps’ Blog.
It was one of those rare fleeting life opportunities that allowed a civil servant of 18 years to jack in his safe & steady job to travel and pursue his love of photography. Meet Dan. It took a leap of faith, yes. But it also took an anvil of persuasion from his adventure-thirsty wife. She’s been a professional artist on the starting blocks of a life less ordinary for years. Meet Jay,
We’re married, from the London area, no kids, family scattered across the UK, life belongings packed into a small green shed - all pretty normal on paper.
Since we decided to reshape our lives, we insist on living in bits of the world with stunning coral, quirky fish, majestic mountains and absolutely no green sheds full of belongings – just fairly hefty rucksacks full of dive gear, camera gear and art materials
We’ll stay in a spot for up to six months and do the things we love. At this stage this mostly involves exploring the underwater world of Indonesia and the South Pacific, tramping the lesser known spots of New Zealand or visiting loved ones back in the U.K.
Jay loves the underwater world and enjoys taking video footage from her diving, snorkelling and land based experiences. Dan is busy growing his love of photography (mostly underwater) into something more tangible than a geeky hobby. This blog is not only a collection of thoughts and experiences we feel are worth passing on, but also a chance for us to share some of our journeys through our photography, videography, art and most importantly- travel.
